SkyView Free is an excellent app for guiding information processing, visualization, and manipulation because it allows students to interact with curriculum and concepts using real-world models. This app lets students point their mobile device to the sky to identify stars, constellations, and satellites. The student can then identify celestial objects in the sky regardless of time. This indicator states that instructors should provide multiple entry points through the content, and that instructors should guide this exploration into new understandings.

General Critique
In support of learner-centered class environments this app encourages students to use their mobile devices to activate their prior knowledge of stars, constellations, or the sky to enhance their understanding of celestial bodies.

UDL Guideline 2.5 - Illustrate through multiple media

3D Brain allows the user to navigate through different areas of the brain and manipulate the virtual 3D model. The section of the brain chosen is a different color than the rest of the brain and the user has the option of turning on a text label. Additionally, the user can read an overview, case study, associated functions, associated cognitive disorders, and symptoms of damage about each section of the brain.



General Critique

The design of this app is well thought out and easy to navigate. Good planning in the design of mobile technology is essential, so that important information can be found quickly. Users of the 3D Brain app can select a section of the brain through a scroll bar, list, or search. The options for labels and text information are clearly labeled on the side of the screen.

General Critique
This application allows students to see the information in many ways by watching videos or looking at pictures. This makes the information more accessible while supporting learning and understanding.

UDL Guideline 7.1- Optimize individual choice and autonomy
Chemist allows students to control the amount of time they spend on a task, discover how chemicals work together without direct instruction, and even allow access to chemicals that are too dangerous to use in the laboratory. There is no instruction or goal previously set for students, which enables students to guide themselves in a lab setting. These features provide for an autonomous laboratory experience for all learning types.

General Critique
The app provides feedback in the form of a balanced chemical equation for students if they create a reaction that can occur on a real lab bench. A simple design is the focus here, but better labels and an integrated tutorial (as opposed to a PDF guide) would be more helpful for student use.

The 'tutorial' pops up as the first thing for users to see every time the app is opened, and a description of how to navigate is provided. This tutorial allows for easier use within the application, and the menu locations is clear.

iBrainstorm allows students to picture their ideas in order to improve metacognition. Also, it allows them to create concept maps that help them to organize their thoughts and visualize their ideas. General Critique
This application has simple tools and a free form drawing feature, so students can draw quick pictures and concept maps.  They can get feedback from, and communicate with, their peers and teachers to organize and improve their work.

General Critique
While the application boasts all levels of Bloom's Taxonomy in the quizzes that are given, all are multiple choice tests with no real reward system in place. Immediate feedback (positive or negative) in quizzes is given to the learner, and the navigation of menus and buttons within the application is obvious to users.

General Critique

By providing a modicum of user control, this application goes beyond simple digital replacement of non-digital curriculum. The user is able to discover more about the night sky in a more interactive way than can ever be provided in the traditional classroom, making this application a move toward a learner-centered classroom.
